The Palo Alto BLACK AND WHITE BALL
The Palo Alto Black and White Ball, the City’s largest and most spectacular fundraiser, returns to historic Lucie Stern Community Center, on October 7, 2006 to celebrate our community and highlight our sister cities. The Ball is presented by the Palo Alto Recreation Foundation, which is celebrating its 20 th year, and is organized by Palo Alto’s community and business leaders.
How cool is it that in Palo Alto, we get to go to a Black and White Ball? Last night, sponsors and attendees came together to support two of the values that make Palo Alto great: a strong sense of community and our excellent schools. The Ball benefited both the Palo Alto Recreation Foundation, which promotes the social, cultural and recreational needs of Palo Alto residents, especially teens, and Palo Alto Partners in Education, which sustains our community tradition of extraordinary education. So a BIG hats off to the organizers and sponsors (Sunny Dykwel - you rock!) of this AMAZING event and giving us all a chance to get dressed up and remember that there is life beyond parenting!
Since 1987, the City of Palo Alto has been the proud sponsor of the bi-annual Palo Alto Black and White Ball — the epitome of charitable formal evenings, the ultimate gathering of the community's most generous supporters, the fundraising gala to end all galas. But in 2002, the future of the event looked bleak, as funds for the next Ball in 2004 were limited due to massive strain of budget cuts.
This year the Ball invites guests to Jet Set…make the scene at a global celebration, the 2006 theme. Upwards of 1500 revelers will enjoy five venues representing our sister cities in France, Sweden, Mexico, The Netherlands, and the Philippines. A silent auction will have a jet set theme featuring ten destinations in exotic corners of the globe while the raffle drawing offers an adventure to a sister city, jewelry and other items.
