A jet-setter's paradise will greet revelers at the Palo Alto Black and White Ball, a gala community fundraiser set for October 7 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Lucie Stern Community Center.

The center will be transformed into multiple venues suggesting the theme of the black-tie gala - "Jet Set: Make the Scene at a Global Celebration" - celebrating Palo Alto's five sister cities in Mexico, France, the Philippines, the Netherlands and Sweden.

Party-goers will enjoy:

  • Live performances on two stages headlining Thomas Dolby and featuring Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind
  • Dancing to 1 a.m. with the big Latin, jazz and hip-hop sounds of Bayonics and Brass Mafia
  • Musical, theatrical and dance performances under the stars with Decadance, West Bay Opera, Hiyas Philippine Folk Dance Company and Ballet Folklorico Mexicano. Enjoy the soul and jazz sounds of Andrea Fultz
  • A jet-setter lounge to cool your feet and enjoy no-host cocktails
  • Wonderful selections of foods provided by more than 45 fine restaurants and wineries
  • A caviar bar with Prosecco pairings and a chance to win a one-carat diamond
  • A silent auction of jet set adventures to global destinations
  • Raffle drawings for exquisite jewelry, extravagant shopping sprees and other exclusive items
  • A bag of party favors and surprise gifts for each guest upon departure

The last Palo Alto Black and White Ball, held in 2004, drew more than 1,350 revelers and raised $184,000 for Palo Alto public school and youth programs. Proceeds this year, as last time, will be shared by the Palo Alto Recreation Foundation and Palo Alto Partners in Education.

School Board member Camille Townsend deemed the 2004 ball "a smashing success." In lauding the event's community focus, Townsend said, "Mingling with a joyful crowd on a magical evening while celebrating our most valuable local assets, our schools and our city - it just does not get better than this."

Tickets for the Palo Alto Black and White Ball are only $135 each and they can be purchased at Lucie Stern Community Center or through Ticketmaster. You can visit our website at www.paloaltoblackandwhiteball.com for more info or call the Ball hotline at 750-769-9000.
